About the Opportunity 

As a Process Development Engineer/ Scientist in the Global Drug Substance Development group you will focus on CMC development, optimization and scale-up of mRNA synthesis and purification processes with the ultimate goal of transferring at scale methods to either the internal or external manufacturing team for GMP manufacturing of mRNA drug substance.

In this role you will….

  • Develop scalable bench scale processes for mRNA drug substance.

  • Design and perform experiments and analyze results.

  • Keep detailed records using an electronic laboratory notebook.

  • Use QbD principles to develop and improve scale down models for mRNA GMP drug substance production to support process understanding, CPP/KPP identification, and robustness studies (PAR and NOR validation) etc. 

  • Analyze, interpret, and summarize results in reports and presentations.  

  • Understand routine and complex analytical methods while working toward continual improvement.  

  • Proactively collaborate with other groups or sites in transfer of information, materials, and drug substance technology 

  • Support and contribute to IND filings/regulatory documentation. 

  • Train new research associates and other junior team members 

About you

  • Biochemistry, engineering, or related degree; PhD with 0 + years, MS with 3 + years, or BS with 5 + years of relevant industrial experience.Experience in large molecule drug substance development is required.

  • Experience of biologics purification using chromatography is required. Other downstream experiences, for instance enzyme reactions, mixing, depth filtration, tangential flow filtration, is preferred.

  • Previous work with mRNA (handling/isolation/quantification/characterization) is desired.   

  • Capable of working in a collaborative team environment both within group and on interdisciplinary teams  

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills   

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
