Responsibilities

We are seeking a visionary and experienced Digital Head of R&D to lead our digital transformation efforts within the Research and Development department. As the Digital Head of R&D, you will play a pivotal role in leveraging digital technologies and data-driven insights to accelerate our drug discovery and development processes, enhance scientific collaboration, and drive innovation across the organization by embracing AI at scale.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead Digital Research Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive digital research strategy, aligning it with the organization's overall business goals and objectives. Drive innovation by identifying emerging trends, technologies, and methodologies relevant to our industry and ensure that digital initiatives drive efficiency, productivity, and innovation.

  • Clinical Excellence: Oversee the development of digital solutions for clinical trials, patient monitoring, and healthcare analytics, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and best practices.

  • Research Team Leadership: Build and lead a high-performing digital R&D team, providing mentorship and guidance to team members by fostering a culture of curiosity, collaboration, and excellence. Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to enable the team to achieve their full potential leveraging agile ways of working.

  • Data Management and Analytics: Oversee the collection, integration, and analysis of large-scale scientific data sets, from the lab to the trials, utilizing advanced analytics and machine learning to extract valuable insights for drug discovery and development.

  • AI and GenAI Integration: Drive the integration of AI and GenAI technologies into R&D workflows, enabling data-driven decision-making, advancing precision medicine, genomics data analysis, healthcare analytic and clinical trial design/analysis.

  • Research Project Management: Plan, prioritize, and oversee multiple research projects simultaneously. Define project objectives, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring adherence to budgets and resource allocation. Monitor project progress and provide guidance to ensure successful outcomes.

  • Collaborative Partnerships: Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with leading academic institutions, research organizations, and industry experts. Foster collaborations and joint research initiatives to leverage external expertise and stay at the forefront of digital innovation.

  • Technology Evaluation: Evaluate emerging and cutting-edge technologies, tools, and platforms to determine their suitability for our organization's R&D efforts. Conduct feasibility studies, prototype development, and proof-of-concept testing to assess their potential impact.

  • Digital Innovation: Foster a culture of innovation by identifying emerging technologies and trends in the pharmaceutical and digital industries and integrating them into R&D processes.

  • Intellectual Property Management: Drive the identification, protection, and commercialization of intellectual property resulting from digital research activities. Work closely with legal teams to safeguard our organization's innovations through patents, copyrights, and other appropriate means.

  • Thought Leadership: Stay abreast of industry trends, advancements, and best practices in digital research and development. Contribute to industry forums, conferences, and publications as a thought leader, representing our organization's expertise and innovation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D., M.Sc., or equivalent) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.

  • Strategic thinker with a track record of driving innovation and achieving measurable results.

  • Proven experience (15 years) leading and managing digital research and development teams.

  • Strong background in conducting and overseeing research projects, with a focus on digital technologies.

  • Strong knowledge of digital technologies, data analytics, and artificial intelligence in the context of drug discovery and development.

  • Deep understanding of emerging trends in digital innovation, such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, blockchain, augmented reality, or IoT.

  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, allocate resources, and manage timelines effectively.

  • Excellent leadership and team-building skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality research outcomes.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, external partners, and stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated thought leadership through publications, patents, conference presentations, or industry recognition.

  • Advanced degree in a relevant scientific or technical field is preferred.
