Summary

The incumbent provides management and leadership for the Toronto site and projects maintenance and engineering functions by directing relationship and processes for execution of the Technical Services department vision. Reporting to the Vice President Industrial Affairs Toronto, the Senior Director ensures that corrective and preventative maintenance of the facility and its equipment, meets the regulatory requirements through maintenance design and execution, with a goal of minimal operational interruptions to our customers. This position also ensures the engineering team provides the proper operational though technical SME’s, design & execution of projects to meet the business needs of the site and support the site master plan. The incumbent has direct and indirect reporting, which may require the ability to recruit, evaluate, and ensure adequate training and development of the required competencies, address human resource / performance issues, succession plan, develop people, manage work load distribution to ensure a satisfactory level of performance and customer satisfaction. This position has a high degree of autonomy in its area and is expected to make decisions and interpretations within broadly defined requirements.

Accountabilities:

·Develop strategic vision for the department and execute that vision, by providing leadership and direction of its personnel, tracking regulatory changes, understanding department responsibilities, and then adjusting the operation accordingly;

·Responsible for the operating expense budget of $47M (Maintenance & Utility);

·Communicating with End Users to manage the Maintenance / Capital Budget and prioritize workload;

·Ensure the implementation of proactive maintenance strategies for reliable manufacturing equipment operations;

·Ensure the implementation of Engineering and Maintenance Best Practices (Predictive Technologies, Root Cause Failure Analysis, Small Project Execution, GEG's, etc.) and Digital projects across the site.

·Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and good documentation practices are followed to track all work and make data analysis efficient;

·Drive reduction in deviations by increasing awareness of cGMP practices and compliance requirements

Global/regional/country/site level interactions:

·Participate as a key member of the IAC by cooperating cross functionally to achieve IA Priorities and Site Performance;

·Participate as a key member for GEM Functional Group and implement the GEM Vision at the site level;

·Partner with the North America GEM Projects Leader to ensure effective implementation of investment portfolio both for Strategic Projects and Small Projects (CapEx200+MCAD in 2020);

·Partner with Global Maintenance Leader and Technical Services Leaders from other sites to ensure consistency of Maintenance Function across sites;

People management responsibilities:

·Manage 13 employees directly, indirectly 166 employees and oversight 220+ contractors (with projects execution);

·Provide people and team development for increased company value and personal satisfaction;

·Lead the department as a "Change Agent" to make a change in culture that includes developing a manufacturing centric organization, increasing management presence (both people managers and support roles) on the shop floor, and issue resolution by the support functions collaboratively with Operations on the shop floor;

Breadth of responsibility (global/regional/country/site):

  • Toronto Site, Global interaction within GEM about the maintenance, energy, engineering management & processes and projects management.

  • Global network with all of the Technical Services & Engineering Head

Education/Certifications

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master degree, with a scientific discipline or Engineer

Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in maintenance, engineering and project management activities in pharmaceutical company, combined with management skills.

  • Fundamental understanding of industrial production environment and maintenance & engineering practices

  • Require high level of critical thinking and prioritization

  • Highly developed Maintenance & Utilities, Engineering & Project Management skills are required, strong communication and influencing skills, problem solving, strong leadership and management capability
