Responsibilities

Position is responsible for developing, implementing and managing Industrial Hygiene Safety Programs, assessing risks and developing related training programs. Provides general HSE support to the Swiftwater site and /or specified client groups and acts as Liaison to the Health Center for IH related activities. This position plays a vital part in ensuring that federal, state, and local laws and regulations are followed in the work environment. Specific services included in this position are respiratory protection and hearing conservation program management, qualitative chemical assessments, air sampling, industrial ergonomic, temperature, and vibration assessments, and executing industrial hygiene monitoring. 

Key accountabilities

Manage the Swiftwater CMRs, Respiratory Protection, HazCom and Chemical Hygiene and Hearing Conservation programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state and local regulations.  Ensure all users are provided annual training, wear appropriate protection devices, are fit-tested on an annual basis (for those wearing tight-fitting respirators) and records are kept up-to-date.  In addition, ensure all related equipment and supplies associated with these programs are calibrated and available for use at any time.

Recognize and evaluate potential exposures in the workplace, and if necessary, perform industrial hygiene exposure monitoring (chemical, noise, temperature extremes, vibration).  Document in a comprehensive report all findings and outcomes, including an action plan (if necessary).  Communicate results to affected personnel and management.     

Work with Health Center management to ensure Medical Monitoring Programs and recordkeeping are in place to support related HSE Safety Programs.

Manage indoor air quality concerns as well as mold and asbestos remediation activities, water damage appraisal.

Data input and management of the internal exposure risk assessments. Ensure exposure risk assessments are performed and documented timely and consistent manner.  Periodic reviews of current risk assessments are performed to capture changes in protocols/processes. 

Support and participate in corporate and site safety initiatives

Support HSE Audits, GEMBA, PASS, Ergonomic initiatives

Site project support as it relates to Industrial Hygiene

Provide technical support, guidance and training on potent compound safety, including containment and handling.  Recommend control strategies for potent compounds (typically OEB 4 and 5) to eliminate or reduce exposure potential. 

Education/experience

Bachelor’s degree in Safety and Health Management, Industrial Hygiene or related scientific fields preferred with 10-15 years of applicable work experience.  An high level of knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environnent Management required.

Certifications

Certified Safety Professional, Certified Induistrial Hygienist, and other certifications desired.

Certified / trained to conduct and ship asbestos samples highly desired.
