Responsibilities

Overview of the Role

  • Accountable for developing and executing the integrated strategy and development plan for their assigned New Vaccines (NV) projects, which can start around Gate M2 and continue through the end of development (end point for a project can vary based upon life cycle planning for the product) . In particular, this role will lead a highly visible, late-stage program, an important LCM project, and due diligence Teams assessing external opportunities.

  • Accountable for structuring the GPT and sub-teams, in cooperation with R&D and non-R&D function heads and, with direct support of GPT members, to ensure the execution of the project within timelines and budget, according to aggressive but realistic objectives. 

  • Responsible for management of project risk which includes communication of critical risks through appropriate governance committees and seeking feedback on risk management from strategic forums.

  • As a member of the Franchise Steering Team and Brand Team, the Dev/LCM GPH also develops a unified R&D vision and strategic roadmap for the franchise and assists with assessments and communication of internal and external opportunities to showcase and enhance the overall franchise strategy.

  • Ensures alignment and coordination with major stakeholders across the company and external partners.  The Dev/LCM GPH is an ambassador of the project and is the main point of contact for the project (both internally and externally), championing the project objectives and progress, as well as the contribution of the project to overall R&D strategy.

The Dev/LCM GPH is accountable for structuring the GPT and subsequent sub-teams, in cooperation with R&D and non R&D function heads and, with direct support of GPT members, to ensure the execution of the project within timelines and budget, according to aggressive but realistic objectives. The Dev/LCM GPH is also responsible for management of project risk which includes communication of critical risks through appropriate governance committees and seeking feedback on risk management from strategic forums. Key accountabilities

The Dev/LCM GPH is fully accountable for overall project strategy and execution starting at Gate M2 (or later) through licensure in primary countries. Accountabilities include:

  • With support of the GPT members, ensures the creation, endorsement, implementation, and update of the integrated development plan (including relevant documents such as TPP, TVP, PRTS, etc.) and aims to deliver expected results on-time, within approved budget, in accordance with the project priority, strategy and risk-management plans

  • Holds GPT members accountable by setting yearly objectives that are pulled through at the functional/sub teams level to ensure connectivity of overall project priority/objectives and provides GPT member formal mid-year/year-end feedback and informal feedback across the teams throughout the year

  • Supervises project activities and resolves resource utilization issues with GPT members and functional heads to meet project objectives (strategic plan and timelines)

  • Translates the TPP into scope and annual objectives of the NV project, ensures initial (pre-Brand Team) activities related to launch preparedness are well defined and executed, ensures the alignment of IEGP, iSCP and the strategic functional plans (e.g., CDP, TSD, and GRPS), ensures that IP strategy and integrated scientific communication plan are well captured in the global plan and updated regularly; ensures that the right interactions with health authorities are in place for strategy alignment and readjusts when needed

  • Manages multiple internal and external stakeholders, including at executive level, where the Dev/LCM GPH champions the project objectives, progress, and risk mitigation strategies, including how the project contributes to overall R&D strategy

  • As ambassador of the project, the Dev/LCM GPH leverages the communication of the NV Project to all relevant entities (internally & externally), and communicates in timely and effective manner with team, functional platforms and management, especially with significant results or events

  • Ensures effective communication and Alliance Management with third parties including NGOs (Non-Government Organizations), partner Companies, academic groups and joint ventures. For projects with external partners, is accountable for building and maintaining aligned strategy with the partner(s)

  • Develops a unified R&D vision and strategic roadmap for the franchise and assists with assessments and communication of internal and external opportunities to showcase and enhance the overall franchise strategy

Education and experience

  • MD (preferrable) and/or Ph.D. (in a science field), with significant background in infectious disease and industry experience

  • Preferably experience in product development, people management and understanding of basic business principles

  • Experience in or demonstrated evidence for the capacity to lead and manage groups of professionals

  • Experience working in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.

  • Strong leadership skills to manage international, cross-functional teams of highly skilled professionals

  • Good networking ability in cross-cultural environment

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, decision-making and negotiation skills across all levels of the organization

  • Understanding of global vaccine development activities along the whole value chain from research up to market access. Skilled in project and/or budget/resource management

  • Strategic thinking in combination with understanding of scientific and business aspects of biopharmaceutical product development

  • Performance oriented with ability to work along agreed timelines and a focus on strategy and execution
