Summary of purpose/major responsibilities

This role serves as the business interface between Biologics and various support functions on site including Finance, Materials Management, Manufacturing Excellence, Quality groups such as batch release and PQMR, Procurement, and FFIP. The Biologics platform manufactures all Antigens required for Fluzone, Menactra and Yellow Fever, supporting a US$ 2+ billion portfolio.

Scope and responsibility supporting the whole Biologics department:

Delivery impacting: Provides leadership and oversight and is accountable for the flow of materials in biologics, in conjunction with scheduling team, to ensure formulation schedules are met.  This includes accuracy of SAP data to maintain the expected quality of production and financial planning, as well as the scheduling of all buffers and medias.

Cost impacting: Calculates the biological yields for each product vs the SAP standard and also provides yield assumptions to be used in all antigens capacity and capability planning through the 5 years horizon of the long rang plan.

Supports the Biologics Manufacturing groups with budget, headcount, planning and scheduling of buffers and medias.

Analyzes current business processes and provides optimization to ensure smooth materials flows from Biologics to Formulation and reduce lats minute crisis associated with raw materials supply to the manufacturing buildings as well as with DS release to formulation.

Scope and Responsibility specific to the Business System group within the Biologics department:

Responsible for managing, developing, and leading personnel within Business Systems (5-8 people). 

Responsible for Business Systems dashboard creation and upkeep. Metrics are used in committees such as L3 board, Supply review, capability review and convergence.

Key accountabilities


Ensure personnel is trained and complies with health, safety, environment regulations.  Responsible for engaging, investigating and correcting departures and expectations to ensure the highest safety standards are maintained.


Ensure personnel is trained and complies with cGMP’s, and Sanofi Quality policies.  Responsible for investigating and correcting deviations or departures from expected performance levels.  Provide leadership and direction to prioritize deviations, CAPA’s, and change controls, and to ensure closures are met on time and with the highest standards of quality.


Provides leadership, direction, and overall oversight for the materials and business systems team with the business system department. Long and short term detailed capacity planning for Diphtheria Toxoid manufacturing, flu concentrate manufacturing, Meninge polysaccharide manufacturing, Meninge Conjugate manufacturing, MenQuad TT manufacturing, seed manufacturing, service/reagent production, and Yellow Fever manufacturing.  Scheduling of all buffers and medias. Provide monitoring and tracking information of area performance (yields, write offs) through use of dash boards.  Identify need for improvements and implements those improvements for all business systems and materials flows. Cooperate transversally with manufacturing excellence, scheduling and planning, and finance to ensure delivery plans are being adhered to. Work transversally with FFIP Business systems/planning and scheduling team to meet all production demands


Monitors biological yields vs SAP standard and provides yields assumption for the next year budget as well as for the Long Range Plan.  Interface with materials management, purchasing, procurement, QC, finance, and others as appropriate to ensure that the needs of the factory are understood and met by external stakeholders.  Biologics manufacturing representative for the Menactra/Influenza/YF convergence teams.   Responsible for managing the headcount related activities for Biologics Manufacturing while adhering to budget. Acts as a liaison with HR to monitor all requisitions and serve as the facilitator for the flexing plans across the department.  Managing the "shop-floor" control functions including tracking the flow of product through the Bulk manufacturing processes including transversal elements (Raw Material availability, QC testing and Batch release). 

Involvement/ People:

Responsible for building and maintaining a high performing team, providing effective alignment and communication with functional groups to successfully deliver on all commitments.  Responsible for managing direct reports within Materials and Business Systems team and address individual skill and career development needs.

Biologics Manufacturing / Site – Support Lead on budget, scheduling, delivery and act as primary contact for Planning related issues for the Bulk Production Unit.

Strong autonomy required to speak and decide on behalf of Production Unit, working with teams to assure realistic schedules meeting business demands and metrics.



BS or BA required - MBA strongly preferred.

4-7 years of experience in Operations and/or Materials Planning role strongly preferred

Will accept technical BS degree with proven business management/analytical skills

Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point

Demonstrated knowledge of business systems, scheduling, and data analysis


APICS/CPIM knowledge/certification preferred
