Synthorx advanced a revolutionary technology that expands the genetic alphabet to drive the site-specific incorporation of non-canonical amino acids into proteins of any size. This technology opens-up opportunities to make novel protein therapeutics in immuno-oncology and autoimmunity with unique modulation of the immune system. We are hiring a Sr. Scientist to join our early lead discovery team to develop new immunology assays that will support our pipeline programs and innovation studies. He/she will develop a variety of primary cell based assays to support early compound screens and MoA studies. The candidate will actively scout pre-clinical and clinical literature, and patent records, in search for example molecules and study systems to test the pharmacological and safety properties of current and future targets in the Synthorx portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and troubleshoot primary cell based assays (ie. phospho-flow, proliferation assay, MLR, cytokine secretion, NK or T cell killing).

  • Incorporates internal and external data into experimental plans for MoA assay development.

  • Effectively work and communicate with group members and contract research organizations, in a dynamic and fast paced environment to accomplish goals.

  • Supervise and guide direct reports in their development and execution of in vitro assays.

  • Review and present data with team members and larger multidisciplinary teams.

  • Independently keep up to date on current literature to aid in experimental design.

  • Draft study reports, protocols, abstracts, posters, and scientific publications, as needed.

  • Approximately 50% bench work with data analysis, and 50% office work


  • PhD plus minimum 3 years of relevant research experience in a biopharmaceutical setting.

  • Strong background in human immunology is required.

  • Experience developing and troubleshooting multi-color flow cytometry is required.

  • Experience developing and troubleshooting primary cell assays, especially with human PBMC.

  • Knowledge of primary cell assays and immune cell markers across species is highly desirable.

  • Effective interpersonal skills, including written and oral communication skills.

  • Management experience is preferred.

  • Excellent time management and organization skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft office, Prism, and FlowJo is essential.
