Responsibilities

Major Responsibilities:

The Manager, North America Operational Support will be responsible to manage the operational support function of the Facilities & Equipment Platform at the Orlando facility.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, overseeing and performing daily operational support, including implementing the Orlando BSL2 program, provide site-wide decontamination and waste handling services, provide safety-related training, and implementing safety initiatives.  This position will interface between R&D and external support groups, such as Health/Safety/Environment, Security, Occupational Health, and managed service providers.  This position will assess and implement operational “best practices” policies & procedures are in line with company and regulatory requirements.  

This position is responsible to collaborate directly with managed service providers and laboratory personnel to ensure that the required daily operational support is provided.   

The position will also be responsible to collaborate with other colleagues at other R&D sites to collaborate on best practices and expertise. 

Key Accountabilities:

R&D Daily Operational Support

Provide daily operational support for the Orlando facility.  Collaborate and support other operational support personnel at the various R&D sites. Manage general R&D operational support activities for the site, such as material and waste management, facility cleaning and general facility housekeeping allowing the laboratory personnel to focus on primary activities Provide training to employees on the BSL2 program and activities Assess evolving needs of the Orlando site to provide optimal and efficient operational support Assess and implement continuous improvement and lean initiatives and processes at the Orlando site Key interface between laboratory personnel and external support groups, such as managed service vendors, to ensure daily support needs are met

R&D Health/Safety/Environment Support Program

Implement corporate and individual site safety initiatives in conjunction with global and/or site HSE functions. Manage BSL2 biosafety level facility activities and procedures in compliance with applicable regulatory, industry guidance and company requirements. Assist the HSE department in conducting annual safety risk assessments for R&D facilities/systems/activities to identify and mitigate potential safety risks Key interface between laboratories, Occupational Health, site biosafety committees and other external site groups for HSE-related activities such as employee medical surveillance and general HSE initiatives

Regulatory/Quality Management

Ensures adherence to all applicable quality, corporate, safety, and regulatory requirements. 

Participate in regulatory and corporate/site quality and safety audits/self-inspections

Qualifications:

Education/ Experience:

B.S. in science related major preferred (e.g. Engineering, Biology, Chemistry) with 5+ years industry experience.

  • Clear communicator (written and verbal) – Communication skills required to be able to act as a liaison between different groups/stakeholders, such as laboratory and maintenance personnel.  Written skills required to create clear and concise documents. 
  • Creative and abstract thinking – Required to develop and implement innovative, creative and efficient solutions to issues.
  • Ability to focus on deadlines and deliverables – Candidate must be goal driven to ensure project timelines are met, and to resolve issues in order to meet schedules when needed.

Functional/Technical Skills

  • Understanding of facilities and equipment in the pharmaceutical industry.  Experience with testing laboratory facilities and equipment preferred.
  • Experience in biosafety practices and laboratory operations preferred.

Business process understanding

Certifications:

Biosafety certifications preferred
