Responsibilities

Scientist – Microbial Strain Engineering
Synthorx, a Sanofi company, is a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to delivering new biologic
medicines to patients. Synthorx is applying a revolutionary synthetic biology technology based on an
expanded DNA code to create designer protein-based medicines. We are seeking a dynamic and
rigorous Scientist to join our team to help design, build and test improvements to our platform to enhance
production of therapeutic proteins. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in molecular
biology and protein expression, and strong expertise in developing strategies and methods for high-level
protein production.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, plan and perform microbiology and molecular biology experiments, analyze and evaluate data, and
write associated reports. Investigate the feasibility of applying a wide range of scientific principles and
concepts to potential inventions and/or products. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to
effectively work within a highly-collaborative environment with other scientific members of the team and
make strong individual contributions to the project.
Education/Experience:
• PhD (bio-engineering, microbiology, molecular biology, or a closely related field) and 4 years
relative industry experience.
• Proven expertise with engineering E. coli is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge and practical experience in the following is particularly advantageous:
o Bacterial physiology, including DNA replication/repair, transcription, translation.
o Command and extensive experience using various DNA assembly methods.
o Deep experience and practical knowledge of bacterial genetics (screens/selections) and
microbiology.
o Extensive experience in protein biochemistry and recombinant protein expression in
microbial hosts.
o Genome engineering of prokaryotic systems is a plus.
o Cutting-edge synthetic biology technology & methods.
o Microbial physiology, metabolism.
• Self-motivated and independent, but demonstrated ability to coordinate and work well as part of a
research team.
• Highly creative and innovative with a drive to create and implement ideas.
• Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and excellent multitasking skills.
