Position Overview:

We are looking for a highly qualified and motivated scientist to help develop novel therapies for the treatment of demyelinating diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis (MS). This is a laboratory-based position that will involve designing and executing experiments to discover and validate targets, leading project teams, and working with collaborators to advance projects. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. and postdoctoral training in neuroscience and experience in research in an industry setting.  A passion for drug discovery, experience working with transgenic mouse models of neurodegeneration, and expertise in cell and molecular biology, sequencing, bioinformatics, data mining, and other approaches to identify and validate targets and pathways is highly desired.   

Key Accountabilities:

  • Conduct in vivo experimental work (functional testing, IV/PO/IP administration, and tissue collection) using MS mouse models such as cuprizone or EAE model.

  • Experience working with in vitro and in vivo disease models using molecular biology and histological techniques including DNA, RNA, and protein extraction, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, in-situ hybridization, western blot, qPCR, and ELISA.

  • Generate and analyze human cellular gene signatures with RNA-Seq, WGS, and other approaches, and mine data to identify and validate targets and pathways.

  • Establish in vitro oligodendrocyte precursor cell (OPC) or co-culture cell-based assay.

  • iPSC engineering efforts including cell line development, expansion, and characterization for target validation and treatment assessment.

  • Lead project teams and work effectively and cross-functionally with internal and external collaborators to advance ongoing exploratory and portfolio projects.  

  • Interact in a matrixed, dynamic, and cross-functional manner across the Neuroscience Therapeutic Area, Research Platforms, and other groups around the world.

  • Prepare and communicate results at internal and external meetings, and in external publications of high quality.

  • Establish and maintain a scientific network external to the company to advance portfolio projects through collaborations, licensing opportunities, and business development.

Qualifications, Competencies & Characteristics:

  • Ph.D. in Neuroscience or related field (e.g., biology, biochemistry) with 2-3 years of postdoctoral training or M.S. with significant industry experience in neurodegenerative diseases.

  • Previous first-author publication(s) in internationally recognized journals are required.

  • Ability to meet aggressive timelines and deliverables in a collaborative environment.

  • Excellent speaking, reading, and writing skills.

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.

  • Curiosity and a willingness to work independently.
