At Sanofi, we focus, we push our limits to chase the miracles of science to improve people’s lives.
Through the postdoctoral fellowship program at Sanofi, we offer exciting and unrivaled development opportunities for research fellows to work at the forefront of science and innovation. The postdoctoral fellowship offers you the opportunity to work closely and receive rigorous scientific training with our industry scientific investigators and engineers, receive nurturing mentor support to reach your full potential, having the opportunity to pursue your research with the latest technological innovations and sharing your finds with internal and external communities. Postdoctoral Fellows at Sanofi also join a community of early career scientists and industry professional connections for life-long personal and professional growth.
The Opportunity
A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Process Analytical Technology (PAT) Development group, part of the Global CMC Development organization in Sanofi R&D (Framingham, MA). The PAT Development group develops, implements, deploys, and transfers new in-line and on-line real time or “near” real-time spectroscopy soft sensors and other analytical technology to support cell culture and protein purification bioprocesses for a wide variety of molecules and modalities.
The PAT Development team is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow with expertise in machine learning, data fusion and multivariate analysis to support the emerging R&D applications across our drug programs.
Position Description
As a Postdoctoral Fellow, the individual will apply machine learning workflows and multimodal data fusion techniques to biological process data and hybrid sensors. The candidate will investigate, assemble, and implement multimodality techniques (data, decision, and feature levels) and algorithms for supervised learning applied to datasets from single/multiple sensor sources and other analytical instruments in bioprocessing. This work will contribute to the development and implementation of advanced in-line and online analytical technology for monitoring and control through applied data science (ADS). The candidate will work in a cross-functional environment interfacing with Process Development and Manufacturing Sciences (Upstream and Downstream processing), Automation Engineering and Data Science teams at Sanofi. Applicants should have demonstrated quantitative and computational skills, a successful peer-review publication record, and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary and innovative research environment.
Key responsibilities
Evaluate and apply multimodality data fusion and machine learning techniques to multi-sensor PAT tools including vibrational (Raman, FTIR) and fluorescence (3-D fluorescence) spectroscopy methods.
Investigate the application of various multimodal data fusion techniques (early, intermediate, late fusion) to complex biological datasets.
Develop data analytics workflows for soft sensors using Machine Learning (ML) and Multivariate Data Analysis (MVDA) methods for monitoring and control of critical process parameters (CPP) and critical quality attributes (CQA) in bioprocess unit operations.
Apply rigorous statistical testing and validation methodologies to assess the use and applicability of hybrid models.
Responsible for planning, executing, documenting, and interpreting experimental-modelling work and results with appropriate supervision and support documentation.
Author technical reports, relevant scientific (peer-reviewed publications) and operational documentation (SOP, e-Lab records) and deliver scientific presentations at relevant conferences and forums (internal and external).
Basic Qualifications
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in engineering (Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering), Data Science, Computer science, Mathematics, or related discipline and 0-3 years of experience.
Experience with applied statistics to data science workflows (data extraction, cleansing, fusion, feature engineering, visualization, processing), machine learning methods for unsupervised/supervised learning (dimensionality reduction, feature selection, clustering, classification, regression, time series, deep learning) and/ or multivariate data analysis (MVDA).
Experience in signal processing working with time series data/high frequency data.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous first-author publication(s) in international peer-reviewed scholar journals.
Proficiency or advanced skills with at least one programming language and/or numeric computing environment is highly desirable (Python, MATLAB, R). Experience with statistical data analysis platforms and/or software packages is a plus (SIMCA, Eigenvector PLS Toolbox and Solo, JMP etc.).
Critical Thinking, strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to meet aggressive timelines and deliverables in a collaborative environment.
Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment.
Curiosity and willingness for continuous learning.
