Job title: Industrial Affairs Specialty Care US, Head of Supply Chain Framingham-Northborough Bio-Campus

The Site:

Framingham and Northborough, MA are two industrial sites, specialized in multiple high-end bio-manufacturing, supporting Sanofi’s portfolio of rare disease and oncology drugs, plus few specialty products like biosurgery and vaccines. They are operating together as a large bio-campus, with drug substance industrialization, manufacturing and testing facilities located in Framingham, while raw material testing, material handling, packaging, and warehousing are in Northborough.

With more than 700 employees, the sites support a strategic portfolio for Sanofi and will deliver a strong growth over the coming years (+30%), with commercial products like Fabrazyme, Cerezyme, Thyrogen and multiple launches expected.

The Framingham-Northborough bio-campus is part of Industrial Affairs Specialty Care GBU and is included into Rare Disease, Oncology, and Immunology manufacturing cluster (RDOI).

The mission:

The Head of Supply Chain for Framingham-Northborough Bio-Campus provides leadership and oversight to all supply chain teams located at Framingham and Northborough, to ensure delivery of commercial and project activities on time and in full to our customers and patients, aiming toward ‘Class A’ best-in-class level of excellence.

He/she ensures that all supply chain related activities are being performed in full compliance of Sanofi’s ambition and standards in terms of safety, environment, quality, cost and continuous improvement and contributes to sites’ goals achievements as a member of Framingham’s leadership team.
In this role, the incumbent enables an open, diverse and inclusive environment for all employees to strive and be there best-self every day, promoting strong collaboration and teamwork, while supporting employees to grow and develop their career within the department and the company.
In addition to the site’s operational responsibilities, the Head of Supply Chain also brings expertise and contributes to IA Specialty Care Global Supply Chain community, contributing to transversal initiatives and programs.

The main responsibilities:

  • Supply Chain Capabilities and Master Data

    • Establishes and maintains a Master Data Governance Process.

    • Specifies data element ownership and accountability and regularly audits to ensure accuracy to Class A levels.

    • Ensures development of a data cleansing and data maintenance process.

    • Sets audits and key metrics with appropriate improvement path for Master Data

    • Develops and maintains a Supply Chain Capability pillar for Supply Chain.

    • Responsible for successful implementation of new initiatives, including systems and processes.

    • Cultivates internal best practice capability, and training, skill upgrades as needed.

    • Ensures usage of systems and tools according to best practice.

    • Establishes a robust set of metrics across the supply chain to include Class A measures as well as site specific measures that accurately depict site performance and improvement opportunities.

    • Elevates Supply Chain planning and execution capabilities to Class A levels over a two-year time horizon.

  • Material Planning

    • Responsible for implementing buyer and material planner role.

    • Ensure that Material Planning and buying are performed according to best practice.

    • Engages and maintains close relationships with Sanofi global procurement and serves as a change influencer and achiever.

    • Develops and maintains vendor relationships and sets appropriate success metrics.

    • Establishes management rigor of safety stock, lead times and other critical parameters according to Class A best practice.

    • Cultivate a forward looking 24-month view of supply risk and develops mitigating plans and options as needed.

    • Cultivate a rigorous S&OP process for all materials

    • Leads the rationalization and simplification of parts catalogues and options.

    • Establishes performance measures, monitors, and takes corrective action.

  • Supply Planning

    • Ensures that supply, production, and inventory plans are valid and meet all service, cost and inventory criteria.

    • Optimizes inventory, cost, schedule stability and service.

    • Establishes Class A Supply planning practices across Master Scheduling, Production planning and new product planning.

    • Establishes practices and procedures that ensure consistency and stability of manufacturing operations.

    • Collaboratives with material managers and manufacturing managers to optimize total site performance.

    • Ensures utilization of systems and processes according to best practice.

    • Establishes performance measures, monitors, and takes corrective action.

  • Warehousing and Transportation

    • Leads all warehousing operations at the Framingham and Northborough sites.

    • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all regulatory, safety and quality requirements.

    • Dedicated partner to manufacturing in delivering materials right time, right quality, right place, right cost.

    • Optimizes Warehouse operations to meet safety, quality, cost, and inventory goals.

    • Ensures that systems and processes are in place to maximize performance and efficiency.

    • Engages external service providers as needed to meet quality, service, and cost commitments.

    • Responsible for managing external 3rd party relationships with warehouse tenants and transportation providers.

    • Cultivates a robust productivity pipeline.

  • Flow Controlling

    • Responsible for implementing digital Factory Control tower and maintaining accurate data

    • Implements a collaborative governance on site between all Autonomous Production Units (APUs) to ensure progression of batches completion according to plan and synchronization prioritization requirement across APUs

    • Contributes to end-to-end product control tower to ensure full synchronization with partner sites

About you


  • Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, and/or Supply Chain

  • 15+ years’ experience in Operations and Supply Chain leadership positions in highly regulated industries (i.e., pharmaceuticals, food, automotive), including people management, drive of transformation projects and transversal change management


  • Technical skills

    • As part of Supply Chain experience, successful implementation of end-to-end business processes is expected (i.e., Master Data Management, Demand Planning, Material Planning, Sales & Operation Planning, Integrated Business Planning, Site Procurement, Supply Planning, Warehousing and Transportation Management), with knowledge of ERP and digital solutions, including SAP, Kinaxis or others.

    • Deployment and/or execution in Class A certified environment is a plus.

  • Leadership skills

  • Languages:

    • English: fluent

Other language mastery is a plus e.g., French, German, Spanish
