Senior Clinical Scientific Lead - Multiple Myeloma

The Senior Clinical Scientific Lead (SCSL) Multiple Myeloma closely collaborates with the Global Project Head for Myeloma to provide leadership and coordination of an integrated cross-compound research and development strategy in multiple myeloma.

The SCSL ensures the strategic coordination and integration of development activities of different internal compounds in terms of their development in multiple myeloma.

  • Facilitates and coordinates interaction with external business partners regarding development and life-cycle management of internal compounds in multiple myeloma.
  • Plays an active role, in collaboration with other functions (particularly Research and Translational Medicine), in new target identification in multiple myeloma.
  • Assesses early (pre-clinical or early clinical) business development opportunities in multiple myeloma.
  • Helps assure that the Oncology Multiple Myeloma development strategy is aligned with the strategic priorities of the R&D Organization and the Business Unit.

Scientific and technical Expertise:

  • Has and maintains relevant scientific expertise in the biology and clinical development in multiple myeloma
  • Understands and keeps updated with the preclinical and clinical data relevant to the molecules of interest
  • Critically reads and evaluates relevant literature with deep understanding of the data and status from competitive products
  • Stays abreast of professional information, industry trends and emerging development in multiple myeloma through conferences, medical literature and other available training.  Works with team members to maintain a comprehensive and up-to-date understanding of the competitive environment in the field and to assess the potential of new internal development activities.
  • Able to interact successfully with external business partners on potential clinical development collaborations
  • Able to interact successfully with internal stakeholders (project teams, cross-functional collaboration) and external stakeholders (particularly key opinion leaders)
  • Thinks strategically in coordination of research and development strategy across different compounds and molecules of interest

Management and Career Development:

  • Collaborates with the Global Project Head for Myeloma to provide strategic coordination and works cross functionally to select and foster collaboration between appropriate team members
  • In case of direct reports: ensures that direct reports are adequately qualified and trained in the task they are required to perform. Works closely with direct reports to create individual performance and development goals

The major duties and responsibilities which the position is accountable for include:

  • Facilitates the strategic coordination and integration of development activities of different internal compounds in terms of their development in multiple myeloma
  • Supports interaction with external business partners regarding development and life-cycle management of internal compounds in multiple myeloma.
  • Catalyzes, in collaboration with other functions (particularly Research and Translational Medicine), new target identification in multiple myeloma.
  • Assesses early (pre-clinical or early clinical) business development opportunities in multiple myeloma.
  • Prepares and manages interactions with external stakeholders (e.g., key opinion leaders, advisory boards, patient advocacy groups, regulatory authorities)
  • In collaboration with GPH, prepares and, as appropriate, presents at internal management presentations and alliance committees

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD scientist, or MD, with background in molecular or immuno-oncology
  • More than 8 years industry experience, with exposure to both research and clinical development environment
  • Research or development experience in the field of multiple myeloma is a must
  • Fluent in English (verbal and written communication)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong scientific and academic background with deep understanding of the disease
  • Experience in or demonstrated evidence for the successful collaboration with

cross-functional teams of highly skilled professionals

  • Good networking ability in cross-cultural environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
  • Strategic thinking in combination with understanding science and technologies
  • Performance oriented with ability to work along agreed timelines
  • Outstanding communicator. Excellent problem-solving, conflict-resolution and decision-making skills
