Responsibilities

At Sanofi we are bringing together Data Scientists to propel Sanofi into its digital transformation by deploying Artificial Intelligence throughout its business.  Data Science is being driven from an inspiring Digital organization with a core mission of helping the company to create data products and methods that enable teams to better work with our data.  The data scientists have a key role in accelerating R&D, driving business insights, innovating how we engage with customers and employees, automating business processes, and maximizing patient impact. This Digital Data Science steam is making a difference by combining analytics, science, and cognitive technologies to uncover hidden relationships from a wealth of data, to generate insights, and inform decision-making. 


This Digital Data Science Manager - R&D will design strategies using AI/ML to have significant impact on R&D. They will establish new AI/ML capabilities to build data products leveraging leading-edge data types e.g., spatial, digital pathology, multi-modal data. This team will capture the patient journey deeply, help to get treatments to patients faster, and will deliver better outcomes.

DIGITAL DATA SCIENCE MANAGER

  • Lead a team in designing and deploying AI/ML digital data products to scale and impact Sanofi's R&D pipeline.

  • Represent R&D Data Science in enterprise digital initiatives focused on enhancing data and establishing standards for AI/ML.

  • Identify opportunities for data-centric AI approaches to enrich R&D and business-related modeling.

  • Developing digital data products for R&D that scale and have an impact across disease areas and functions.

  • Establish AI/ML techniques cutting across the data domain for R&D: spatial, single cell, chemistry, omics, device, chemistry, electronic health records, social media postings and/or operational data

  • Bring new means of visualization, data storytelling, and data technologies to scope, define, and deliver AI-based data products for R&D

  • Guide the delivery of models, algorithms, simulations, and performance evaluation by writing highly optimized, deployable code and using state-of-the art machine learning technologies

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's Degree in mathematics, computer science, engineering, physics, statistics, economics, computational sciences or a related quantitative discipline and 10+ years of Data Science experience, or PhD + 9 years of with relevant work & domain experience

  • Experience leading teams who deliver data product and/or software, preferably related to biomedical or health related topics.

  • Experience across relevant AI/ML areas: advanced NLP modeling, federated machine learning, computer vision and/or digital pathology, semi-supervised deep learning, graph neural networks, Bayesian networks

  • Experience AI / ML modeling of complex datasets

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, business analysis, and consultancy skills

  • Guiding the development of compelling visual analytics and/or data story telling with Tableau or other

  • Experience with pharmaceutical operations, biomedical data, and/or drug development

  • Expertise with the core data science languages (such as Python, R, Scala), and familiarity & flexibility with data systems (e.g., SQL, NoSQL, knowledge graphs)

  • Comfortable working in cloud and high-performance computational environments (e.g., AWS, Apache Spark, Databricks)

  • Agile delivery and coaching

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:

  • Disciplined AI / ML development (CI / CD, Orchestration)

  • Experience with Tableau or Power BI

  • Privacy preserving data analytics

  • AI Governance, Regulatory, GxP, or similar standards

This role will be aligned with the Sanofi Data Science job function and role.
