At Sanofi we are bringing together Data Scientists to propel Sanofi into its digital transformation by deploying Artificial Intelligence throughout its business.  Data Science is being driven from an inspiring Digital organization with a core mission of helping the company to create data products and methods that enable teams to better work with our data.  The data scientists have a key role in accelerating R&D, driving business insights, innovating how we engage with customers and employees, automating business processes, and maximizing patient impact. This Digital Data Science steam is already making a difference and is expanding  – with multiple roles, in multiple locations.

This Lead Data Scientist will embrace multi-modal data relevant to R&D to help develop better drugs faster, choose the right treatment for a patient and run safer and more efficient clinical trials.

Lead Data Scientist Responsibilities:

  • Define and refine how Data Science can accelerate Sanofi R&D through preclinical and clinical efforts, with the goal of using data science to better understand the patient journey and to help us tailor interventions that maximize patient benefit.

  • Proficient at collecting and mining data from disparate data sources, and willing to dig deeper and understand the process that creates the data

  • Identify opportunities for data-centric AI approaches to enrich R&D models

  • Use data analysis, visualization, storytelling, and data technologies to scope, define and deliver AI-based data products to accelerate and optimize R&D

  • Understanding and effectively work with a wide variety of data sources, such as unstructured data, omics,  wearable device data (for example accelerometry and ECG), voice recordings, imaging data, electronic health records, social media postings or operational data.

  • Developing digital data products for R&D that scale

  • He/she will be able to generate work product that includes interactive visualizations, presentations, publications, web applications, predictive algorithms, and APIs

  • Build models, algorithms, simulations, and performance evaluation by writing highly optimized, deployable code and using state-of-the art machine learning technologies

Essential experience:

  • Master's Degree in mathematics, computer science, engineering, physics, statistics, economics, computational sciences or a related quantitative discipline and 5+ years of Data Science experience, or PhD + 3years of with relevant work & domain experience.

  • Direct experience with any of the following techniques: advanced NLP modeling, federated machine learning, semi-supervised deep learning, graph neural networks, Bayesian networks

  • Experience AI / ML modeling of complex datasets

  • Visual analytics and/or data story telling with Tableau or other

  • Experience with some aspects of pharmaceutical operations, biomedical data, and/or drug development

  • Expertise with the core data science languages (such as Python, R, Scala), and familiarity & flexibility with data systems (e.g. SQL, NoSQL, knowledge graphs)

  • Comfortable working in cloud and high-performance computational environments (e.g. AWS, Apache Spark, Databricks)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, business analysis, and consultancy skills

  • Agile

Desirable experience:

  • Disciplined AI / ML development (CI / CD, Orchestration)

  • Experience with Tableau or Power BI

  • Privacy preserving data analytics

  • Regulatory, GxP, or similar standards

This role will be aligned with the Sanofi Data Science job function and role.
