Job Description
We are seeking a talented technical lead to evaluate immune responses to the infectious disease vaccine candidates from the bench to the bedside. Candidate must have a broad working knowledge of immunology, with a preferred focus on B cell immunology, of applicable microfluidic-based characterization methods and be able to apply that knowledge independently and creatively toward the development of novel protocols to define the biomarkers of immunity and advance rational design for vaccine candidates. Successful candidate will help drive the scientific and technical strategy for multiple programs, including the development of high dimensional flow cytometry and 10X Genomics tools for deep profiling of antigen-specific T and B cells in multiple contexts. Candidate will have exceptional ability to design, execute, analyze and troubleshoot complex experiments and train junior scientists. Individual must be a self-starter, strategic thinker, possess ability to work in a matrix organization and to change direction and methods if required.
Job Responsibilities
Independently propose, design, develop and oversee execution of studies to enable high quality analysis of vaccine responses and train others as required
Provide scientific leadership in the team to develop and evaluate workflows for B cell responses and mAb discovery and characterization activities to support ongoing projects
Oversee and participate in lab work to support research studies: develop design, experimental plans, hypotheses, evaluate and interpret data, write reports, present results
Lead tech transfer of technical methodologies to other sites and/or cross-functional internal or external groups as required
Bring forth new ideas, techniques, and technology to ensure that the group remains at the forefront of the innovation in the field to best serve the projects
Participate in timeline planning and decision-making regarding research priorities and provide information on feasibility of prospective projects
Present findings to the teams, management, and multidisciplinary groups internally and externally to the collaborators and at the conferences
Requirements
PhD in Immunology, Molecular Biology (or related discipline), 5+ years of postdoctoral experience, M.Sc. with 8+ years of relevant experience. Additional experience in pharma industry is a plus
Ability to demonstrate leadership and success guiding B cell characterization methodologies from concept phase through implementation
Deep understanding of and hands-on experience with flow cytometry, cell sorter and 10x Genomics® Chromium™ system as well as sequence data analysis
Expertise in developing, optimizing, and troubleshooting antibody panels for novel analytical flow assays
Hands-on experience in isolation, handling and characterization using multicolor flow cytometry of primary cells
Deep knowledge in multi-parameter flow cytometry analysis
Extensive hands-on experience with B cell isolation. Previous experience with mAb discovery is highly desirable.
Experience working in a matrix environment and supporting one or more projects simultaneously
Excellent time management skills, ability to prioritize work and to drive project activities forward
Excellent organization and planning skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment independently or as part of a team, strong motivation with a dedicated work ethic
Vast expertise in immunology with a preferred focus on B cell immunology and with record of scientific achievement (strong publication and/or patent, IND filing record)
Sound judgement, excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to provide recommendations around complex scientific results
Compliance with all safety training and good research laboratory practices
Experience working in Pharma, biotech industry
Experience identifying and managing work with CROs
