The Associate Director of Medical Communications constitutes a vital member of the Global Scientific Engagement & Communications and Global Medical Affairs teams, focused on developing the global medical communications strategy; planning, managing, and preparing internal and external communications of key scientific and clinical data; and implementation of medical education initiatives. The Associate Director will collaborate with cross-functional teams to lead medical communications, both internally and externally, to prepare for key upcoming launches within Rare Neurology. A key element of this role will be to motivate, drive and encourage collaborating cross-functions and internal resources towards successful execution of the medical communications plan.
Key responsibilities include:
- Becoming subject matter expert and internal liaison for diseases within the Rare Neurology franchise
- Developing, managing, and executing annual and long-range global medical communications plans and budgets, collaborating cross-functionally to ensure alignment with overall objectives
- Developing and updating lexicons and strategic scientific platforms to be used by global cross-functional teams
- Developing and updating a core set of strategically aligned, balanced, and accurate medical communications materials (e.g., slide decks, FAQ guides, brochures, videos/animations, etc.) aligned with applicable guidelines, areas of clinical interest, and educational needs of clinicians that can be used worldwide
- Driving the strategy and execution of digital medical communications
- Developing educational/training resources that are aligned with the needs of cross-functional team
- Overseeing internal and external medical communications related to congress activities
- Continuously surveying the medical and scientific literature for the identification of relevant publications, and leading development of monthly literature updates and annotated summaries of key publications
- Moderating and managing development of content, resources, and materials for scientific exchange in advisory boards and symposia
- Collaborating with external vendors in the execution of the strategic medical communication plan
- Providing overall project management for medical communications projects, to manage team workloads and demands, achieve goals and objectives, and ensure quality, accuracy, and timeliness of all projects
- Identifying and implementing best practices and standardized processes for scientific meeting/congress planning, advisory boards, and other scientific communications.
- Uphold the highest level of editorial and scientific integrity for all projects in accordance with all applicable internal corporate, professional society, governmental/regulatory, and biopharmaceutical industry policies and guidelines
- Advanced scientific degree (e.g., PhD, PharmD) in life sciences
- 5 or more years of scientific communications/medical affairs experience within the pharma/biotech industry
- Have demonstrated ability in project management and the successful interaction with external key opinion leaders
- Outstanding written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Acrobat. Datavision expertise a plus
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently as well as within cross-functional teams
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, thinks critically, and adheres to deadlines
- Exemplary people skills, and the capability to collaborate with Key Opinion Leaders in a credible, responsive and focused manner is a necessity
- Ability to multi-task and interpret and critique scientific and medical literature with respect to scientific and business implications are essential

Location: Cambridge, MA, USA
Travel: Approximately 20% (international and domestic)
