Responsibilities

The CHC Medical department acts as a strategic catalyst to the global CHC business to ensure the development and support of innovative consumer-friendly healthcare solutions; solutions based on actionable medical insights and utilization of credible scientific evidence. Through scientific engagement this department helps shape medical knowledge and clinical practice to provide better health outcomes and helps Sanofi achieve its mission of Empowering Life.

Job overview

Take responsibility for the medical/scientific stewardship of the North American CHC organization and be the executive interface between the regional and global organization, as well as other Sanofi business units.  Main responsibilities include creating the strategic vision for the NA CHC Medical organization and setting the direction within the broader global and medical context of Sanofi; fostering scientific innovation and disruption and solving complex challenges created by a changing health care environment while maintaining strict compliance with corporate policies and high ethical standards; and developing and promoting a medical organization that effectively evolves scientific engagement and improves consumer health outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Create the near and longer term vision for the CHC Medical region and develop and implement  strategies concordant with global and regional objectives and priorities
  • Foster scientific innovation and drive the development of creative, evidence-based, consumer-oriented solutions by promoting a disruptive and strategic mindset
  • Drive the generation of credible scientific evidence supporting product safety and differentiation
  • Lead and develop a high performing team by developing capabilities and competencies, establishing objectives and development goals, and fostering an environment/culture of continued learning and best practice knowledge sharing
  • Establish effective partnerships and develop collaborative team relationships with Global CHC Business partners and support functions, especially Global Therapeutic Area teams, Global Switch and White Space and R&D
  • Develop best in class medical/scientific strategies to partner and inform the development, market introduction and/or life-cycle management of US Rx-to-OTC switch products and in-licensed or acquired OTC products
  • Ensure that the regional medical commitments are of high standard, delivered according to timelines and within budget, while maintaining compliance with corporate policies and ethical standards
  • Ensure appropriate representation & collaboration by affiliate Medical organizations in Extended Medical Teams representing Global Brands
  • Develop and manage the Regional Medical budget  ensure accurate forecasting of expenses

Basic Qualifications

  • M.D., PharmD or Ph.D. is required
  • At least 15 years of experience in consumer health care and pharmaceutical industry with deep knowledge of disease, biology, treatment paradigms, clinical product development, US/Canadian regulatory requirements, and the disruptive forces changing health care and consumer health care in particular
  • Proven entrepreneurial leadership
  • Medical stewardship optimizing market introduction and life-cycle management of a pharmacological product
  • Demonstrable Rx-to-OTC switch experience in the US market

Preferred Qualifications

  • Capable of leading a team through complexity, amorphousness, and uncertainty
  • Strategic vision and executive, organizational leadership

Terms of employment

  • The hired candidate will have 6 direct reports
  • Up to 30% national and international travel is required for this position
  • The hired candidate will report to the Global Medical Head of CHC
