Responsibilities

The Head of Field Sales is responsible for the direction, coordination and development of the Field Sales team.  Responsibilities include delivering maximum sales revenues, the achievement of distribution, promotional and sales volume objectives and insuring adequate staffing and the professional development of all field sales personnel.  Classes of Trade include:  All Chain Food, Food Wholesalers, Regional Drug Chains, Drug Wholesalers, Dollar, Club, and Convenience.

Role Specific Responsibilities

  • Direct and supervise four Directors.

  • Insure the achievement of stated volume, distribution, promotion and merchandising goals within the field sales organization; which encompasses all food retailers, club stores, dollar store, drug wholesalers and regional drug chains

  • Insure all objectives are achieved within the stated policies and guidelines established

  • Review Director’s reports, communication and performance; counseling, assisting, directing them as required

  • Evaluate available market analysis, information and trends to provide direction and support to the Region Directors in preparing and developing sales coverage plans

  • Direct and assist to the Directors in the management and appropriate investment of all trade funds (Special Events) with the expressed purpose of delivering incremental, profitable sales revenue

  • Provide direction and assistance to the Directors in the management of the national food broker network 

  • Assist the Directors in the development and execution of account promotional programs, trade sales strategies and new product launches

  • Accompany Region, Unit and Broker Managers, when necessary, in performing critical duties, such as participating in key customer meetings, holding sales meetings, and interpreting policy decisions within the scope of authority

  • Manage the recruitment, hiring and training of all field sales personnel

  • Assist and participate in industry trade shows and conferences as directed by the Head of Sales and Trade Management

  • Maintain awareness of and communicate all appropriate competitive activity, distribution trends, new products, sales promotions and pricing activity

  • Play an active role in the formal sales training programs, working in conjunction with the Head of Sales Planning and Trade Development

  • Collaborate with the Head of Sales and Trade Development in the development of policies and programs related to:

  • Size and form of sales organization

  • Business Development

  • Trade Relations

  • Trade Sales Promotion

  • Category Management activities

  • Sales Incentive Plan

  • Cooperate will all executives and other managers in the company for the maximum achievement of sales, profits, and satisfied customers

Qualifications

Education:  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college required with a focus in business preferred.

Experience: :  15+ years proven sales experience within the consumer products industry with direct account responsibility along with successful people management experience. Club & Dollar experience preferred. Broker management experience is preferred. Cross functional experience preferred.    

Professional Skills: Business and financial acumen. Strategic Thinking. Problem Solving. Strong Proven Leadership. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellence with Building Cross Functional Relationships. Ability to analyze and evaluate several sources of data & develop actionable insights.

Role Specific Competencies:   This position requires extensive use of computer equipment. Must have a demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft business software to include Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook. Proficiency with Nielsen or IRI programs is required. This position requires the ability to travel and have overnight stays.

Special Requirements:  Close Proximity to major airport hub. 50% travel required.

The successful candidate will be required to sign and execute a restricted covenant upon hire.
